Richard Woods nació en Chester, Inglaterra, en 1966 y se graduó en la Slade School of Fine Art de Londres en 1990, donde se formó como escultor. Woods es bien conocido por sus instalaciones arquitectónicas y el revestimiento de estructuras que proponen un giro absurdo en el culto a la mejora del hogar y a la estética del bricolaje. Sus obras se caracterizan por sus superficies decorativas en forma de dibujos animados, sus diseños atrevidos y sus vibrantes colores. Woods completó un importante encargo de arquitectura en Corea del Sur para los Juegos Olímpicos de Invierno de 2018 en Pyeongchang, diseñó un interior para la tienda insignia de la Comme des Garçons en Osaka, orquestó el simulacro de la reforma Tudor de una residencia privada en Nueva York y transformó el interior de la antigua residencia de Cary Grant en Hollywood para su nuevo propietario, Jeffrey Deitch. En 2003, su reconstrucción de un patio de clausura fue la pieza central de la exposición de la Fundación Henry Moore en la 50ª Bienal Internacional de Arte de Venecia.
